General Information - REACH Registration


REACH stands for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. REACH entered into force on 1 June 2007 and applies, in principle, to all chemical substances.

REACH places the burden of proof on companies. This means, that companies have to check their portfolio concerning substances as such (1), substances in mixtures (2) and substances in articles (3) that are affected by REACH.

The Substances “Charcoal” and “Charcoal, coconut shell” are phase-in substances under REACH.


Registration deadlines

30 November 2010:substances manufactured or imported at 1 000 tonnes or more a year.
31 May 2013:substances manufactured or imported at 100-1 000 tonnes a year.
31 May 2018:substances manufactured or imported at 1-100 tonnes a year.

Substance Identity

Companies have to identify their substance regarding to REACH Annex VI, Section 2.


Substance Sameness

In order to become a member of a joint submission, companies have to ensure that their substance is covered by the lead dossier of the joint submission. This means that the substance must meet the "substance sameness criteria", defined by the SIEF since the submission of the lead dossier.
